VoTech Connects

On site job sampling and vocational training for individuals ages 14 to 21 who have developmental disabilities. We use industry best practices in ABA to teach job skills.

Mission:

VoTech Connects’ mission is to provide individuals who have developmental disabilities with a variety of job sampling opportunities and social skill instruction, while working towards competitive employment in the workplace.

Overview:

New Behavioral Network’s VoTech Connects offers individuals with developmental disabilities the opportunity to experience real-life job sampling while learning essential job social skills, interview skills, and job training skills. The participants will move through specific rotations throughout the school year. Throughout these rotations they will learn various aspects of working in a durable medical equipment warehouse, car detailing service, office setting, laundry service, and retail store. All social skill training will be taught discretely to the participants and be imbedded throughout the experience to increase  generalization and maintenance of skills. Instruction will be provided by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and job coaches within the work setting. The instruction and job sampling will provide the participants with the necessary skill set foundation to work towards job placements within The NBN Group as well as other local, community employment opportunities.

Each participant’s job skill sets will be assessed at the beginning and end of each phase. Progress will be monitored daily to ensure that teaching matches the individual’s needs, strengths and goals.

Phases:

Participants will move through three phases of the program. Phase One consists of the students learning job skills related to working in a durable medical equipment warehouse, car detailing service, office setting, laundry service, and retail store. During this phase, participants will learn about the following:

Warehouse

  • Cleaning medical equipment
  • Picking, packaging, and shipping medical patient orders
  • Stocking shelves
  • Material assembly

Car Detailing

  • Detailing inside/outside of NBN vehicles
  • Restocking NBN vehicles with marketing materials

Laundry Service

  • Full laundry service of medical equipment/supplies

Office Skills

  • Administrative duties (i.e. copying, faxing, shredding, assembly)
  • Customer service
  • Janitorial duties

Retail Store

  • Working within the NBN retail store for durable medical equipment

In phase two, the participants will begin to apply the skills taught in phase one into The NBN Group workplace. Job coaches will provide the support needed to be successful within the workplace, take data, and monitor the progress of each individual. In phase three, students will move towards competitive employment with and without the support of job coaches. The job coaches and BCBA will work closely with participants to ensure that employment matches personal preferences and skill sets. As independence in competitive employment positions increases, job coaches will fade out over time but be available for ongoing support if needed.
